Eyes still stinging from the spray, Teddy Richards leaned in to get a taste of champagne as the best hockey player in the world tipped the Stanley Cup in his direction. Richards, who grew up on South Hancock Street in Wilkes-Barre, started his career in hockey parking cars at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins games 14 years ago.

Sestito helps renew rivalry between Penguins, Bears
If we’re being honest, this Hershey-Penguins rivalry had started to go stale. You could see it with the lack of attendance in both buildings Friday and Saturday in games 2 and 3 of the Atlantic Division Final. The majority of Hershey-based media outlets didn’t bother to make the trip up I-81; and the 10-day break in-between series for the Penguins had some local fans unaware the season was still going at all.

The good news is that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are just five points out of first place in the Atlantic Division with 18 games remaining this season. The exceedingly bad news is that six of those games —including this afternoon’s — are against the division-leading Hershey Bears, who continued their dominance over the Penguins on Saturday with a 6-2 win in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,975 at the Giant Center.

It’s Wednesday, Jan. 27 and the Atlantic Division–leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are gearing up to host the Hartford Wolf Pack at Mohegan Sun Arena. The coaches and players are back in the locker room going over the final points of the night’s game plan, the on-ice officials are taking their warm-up laps, and the public address announcer is making sure Jean-Sebastien Dea’s name is pronounced “DEE” and not “DAY.”.

Red Sox sellout streak a real numbers game
At 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, in the seventh inning of a game against the Oakland A’s, the Red Sox cut off ticket sales at Fenway Park with an estimated 300 seats unsold, according to a Globe gate-by-gate review and interviews with team executives. At 10:19 p.m., the Sox announced the game was sold out.

A major talent
Bradley, who grew up in New England, has long idolized local athletes such as Tom Brady, who sent the rookie a congratulatory text message after his PGA Championship playoff win on Sunday.
